Fundraising For New Changing Rooms

Sharlston Rovers Juniors has been in existence since 2014, this being the first season a junior club played. Prior to this we had only two Open Age teams.

The club currently has teams at Tots (5 and under), under 7, under 8, under 10, under 11 and under 13 as well as being the home of Wakefield Trinity Ladies under 16's and Wakefield Trinity Ladies.

Across these age groups there are currently 140 players registered to represent Sharlston Rovers Juniors. These players are not solely from the immediate locality of Sharlston Parish. Many players travel from across the Wakefield district whilst there are families that travel over 10 miles for their children to play for Sharlston Rovers Juniors from areas within Barnsley.

As a priority Sharlston Rovers Juniors would like to extend the current changing facility block by adding a further two changing rooms with individual access to toilets and shower facilities.

As the club has grown the current 2 changing rooms are not fit for purpose. Currently where 2 of the age groups are at home on the same day it is necessary to stagger kick off times as there simply aren’t the facilities for more than 2 teams to use a changing room. By doubling the current allocation of changing rooms this would alleviate this issue in fixture planning.

The growing nature of Sharlston Rovers Juniors is a further reason why improved facilities are required. Year on year there has been an increase in the numbers of young people coming to Sharlston to play their rugby. This increase in engagement numbers requires an increase in the amount of facilities that we have on offer. Furthermore, as Sharlston Rovers Juniors attracts young people and their families from a wider catchment than the immediate Sharlston Parish it is important that the facilities on offer are of a suitable standard and quality to make positive lasting impressions on families and enhance the future growth of the participation numbers at Sharlston Rovers Juniors. For the club to continue to grow, recruit and retain players across all junior age groups it is vital that the facilities on offer are of a good standard.
